Nutso for solids | Glimpses Week 18

(This photo is part of the Glimpses 52 project over at the Chic Critique Forum.)

In the last few weeks, Jack has transformed from "still kind of a newborn" to "definitely not a newborn." In fact, he's become the quintessential "Gerber baby" - he's sitting (in a wobbly, propped up kind of fashion but still, sitting) and smiling and grabbing things and even starting to rotate and push backwards when you put him on his tummy.

He's out of our room and into a crib, mostly sleeping through the night, and we also started him on solids. He goes nutso for the solids! I thought the high chair might be a good place for him to hang out while I do things like prepare meals, feed Liam, eat and clean up, but once you put him in there, he expects to be fed! And pretty much doesn't want to stop until you take him out of there. This is his mouth open where's-the-spoon look I get all the time!

I must say, it's a nice change from Liam, who right now often needs to be cajoled into every mouthful. Mind you, he was more like Jack at Jack's age too, and ultimately, I'm glad they're both good eaters. I have lots of fond memories of trying different foods on Liam and I'm looking forward to doing the same with Jack!

Jack in the bumbo | Glimpses Week 17

(This photo is part of the Glimpses 52 project over at the Chic Critique Forum.)

I figured it's high time Jack got a Glimpses blog entry... this is a true glimpse into our life right now, cluttered kitchen counters and all.

And yes, Jack is sitting in a bumbo on our kitchen table! Don't worry, he is closely supervised at all times, and no, this wasn't my idea!

Help, these people are crazy! (Jack)

Well, I figure Jack needs a blog post too, right?!

Jack is... well, what can I say about Jack? It's amazing to think that we've added a whole entire person to our family just like that.

Of course, it wasn't exactly "just like that" but it does seem a little bit like all of a sudden he's here and just sort of good naturedly going with the flow. Except when he's mad. When he lets you know. Just like his brother (and his father).

Jack is that age now when he's really starting to communicate. Pay him a little bit of attention and he will more than likely reward you with smiles that make you feel like you're the Best Thing Ever. So often in photos though he has this look as though to say "help, these people are crazy!"

Benjamin at Prospect Park - Brooklyn family photo session

A gorgeous fall afternoon in Prospect Park, a beautiful baby boy with big wide eyes, a fun family of three generations... what more could you ask for?!

Did I mention the little chubby not-yet-one-year-old cheeks? And the beautiful fall colors?

Erica is one of my current photosanity workshop participants, so I was delighted when she approached me about a family photo session for when her mother was visiting from Hawaii. I love including grandparents and extended family - it creates more relationships and moments to capture and adds special meaning to the session.

Plus I always love when workshop participants become portrait clients. I mean, I have amazing clients in general, but when they're from the workshop, they already know me, my style, my approach, and the philosophies behind what I do, and I already know that they value photography and are commited to creating beautiful photo documentation of their family's life.

Erica and her family were no exception. Not only that, but Erica did all her homework ahead of time - she clearly communicated her expectations, read over everything I sent her carefully and asked me lots of questions beforehand so that everything went really smoothly.

And I just loved how much fun the family were able to have on the day!

Erica, Peter, Benjamin and Judy, thank you so much for a great afternoon in the park! I can't wait to get you your order!

You can see the full slideshow here.

If you're a friend of the family, please leave a comment below wishing them well. You'll also help them win a complimentary 8x10 print if they get 25 comments, a mounted 11x14 print if they get 50 comments and a beautiful 10x10 canvas gallery wrap if they get 75 comments, all by November 11th, 2011!

And if you're interested in a photo session yourself for next year (I'm fully booked for this year) sign up for a complimentary be inspired mini sample kit and you'll also be the first to know when the 2012 High Line session dates open up.
