So yeah, I think everyone knows by now but in case you missed it, I'm pregnant! We're expecting a little baby brother for Liam at the end of the year and I am currently almost 26 weeks pregnant.
And I can't believe I've been sitting on these gorgeous photos, taken by my friend Katie of Katie Jane Photography for over 10 weeks!
Yup, I was only 15 weeks pregnant in these photos, and believe me I'm "showing" a lot more now. Complete strangers have started giving me the "so, any day now, huh?" comments. Nope, not any day now, and no it's not twins. All signs are that it's going to big baby like Liam though - we have the genes from my husband's side of the family to thank for that!
Katie and I have been doing session exchanges since Liam was 9 months old and we planned this one way before I was pregnant... but it worked out great to capture some early pregnancy photos. We'll probably do a full family session later this fall but I love having "mommy and me" sessions, especially as I'm so rarely in front of the camera with Liam, and Keith does not particularly like having his photo taken so is more than happy to bow out if given half a chance!
Of course, I take so many photos of Liam by himself that the focus is not usually on portraits of him. However, I love this moment that Katie captured - we had Liam pick up stones and show them to her saying "look Katie!"
Actually, this is one of my all time favorite photos of Liam, even though I didn't take it! I think next time I'll have her take a few more just of him as she gets different responses and expressions from him than I do. In fact, just the other day I was showing Liam some of these photos and were were reminiscing about that day and how we got our feet wet when a big wave came in (true story!) and, totally unprompted, he said "And I said look Katie!" He remembered! Amazing...
Oh and by the way, in case you were wondering, this session did not start off well. Katie got lost on the way to the park and while we were waiting, my niece, who was with us to help out, took Liam to the playground. Well, needless to say, when Katie arrived, Liam was not really in the mood to leave the playground. I was THAT mom dragging my kid kicking and screaming to go and have his photos taken.
I honestly thought we were going to have to reschedule, but I stayed calm, gave Liam a snack and some cuddles, and he totally rallied! He was a little more subdued than he might have been, but I love the photos we got. So clients, if this happens to you, don't worry, I've been there, and the situation is not unsalvagable if you keep your cool!
I tell my workshop partipants to try to capture all the emotions of their kids, not just the happy ones. I love this photo from the start of our session, even though Liam is still looking rather dubious about the whole thing (and would not be separated from his trains). These are so sweet too:
The Brooklyn Bridge Park is so beautiful and spectacular - it's one of my favorite locations. I love the beachy yet urban quality of all these photos.
And of course, to have beautiful photos that capture something of the essence of my relationship with Liam is truly priceless. I'll treasure these photos for the rest of my life. Thank you so much Katie!
