Waiting room reminiscing

I took Liam for a check-up at the pediatrician's today. Whenever we go, there is invariably a couple waiting with their newborn for their first visit and, well, it always just takes me back.

Remember those early visits? The ones where you sit in the waiting room surreptiously checking out the older babies (even the six month ones) in amazement because it seems so impossibly far off? And the moms with the older kids seem so confident... casual even?

I'm now that mom with the impossibly huge looking toddler. He sat on my lap and ate lunch. He said hi to some older kids who just stared back. He jumped off my lap and ran around the corridors. He flirted with the nurses. He threatened a minor meltdown and I read him a book.

It happens. You'll get there, faster than you know. And it's so much fun and so worth it!

I love this age, and five years old, ten, fifteen... it doesn't seem so impossibly far off anymore.

I'm one!

I know I've been talking (and thinking) a lot about how much I love working with newborns but the fact is, I love working with babies and young children of all ages.

I mean, look at this gorgeous little boy! Zayne turned one just before our photo session last week and oh my goodness, he was so much fun, with such an infectiously joyous personality. I was smiling and laughing all the way through the editing process as well as at our session - what a pleasure!

Congrulations to Zayne's parents for reaching the one year mark (which I always consider to be a big achievement worth celebrating) and for being my spring giveaway first prize winners!

Plank, glorious plank!

I love plank. When I first saw it, I knew I had to have it, and I had a couple of 4x6s made of some of my earliest favorite images of Liam - the ones that first made me think about starting my own photography business.

A lot of photographers rave about canvas prints and I know they can be stunning but... I just can't do it. It doesn't suit my work or my design aesthetic.

Plank though, plank is gorgeous. Plank sits on my desk and makes me smile every day, and it's great for wall galleries too. Plank makes people gush. Plank is clean, crisp, contemporary, yet natural, warm, textural and, made from bamboo, sustainable as well.

Yum!
