Five favorite tips for new and expectant parents

Ever since I was little and I made a magazine for the club that my sister and I and some friends started, I've always enjoyed creating or contributing to magazines and newsletters. I wrote a lot for the school magazine when I was in high school and the school paper in college, and I even started a newsletter for the architecture school.

However, when it came to starting a newsletter for my business, truth be told, I hesitated for a while, even after collecting sign-ups.

It wasn't until I learnt that the best newsletters focus on content that is valuable and of interest to readers (and is not a sales pitch) that I thought, "oh, well, I can do that" and we were off to the races!

Now I really enjoy putting my newsletter together every month (and I adore Mad Mimi - they make it really easy to put something together that looks good). I've written about fun ideas for great photo locations, easy, non-technical ways to improve your photography right now (even if you're sleep deprived), and this month's issue includes my five favorite tips that I love to give to new and expectant parents. It's not that I go around spouting advice to random pregnant strangers, but these are the things I want everyone to know!

Future topics I'm really looking forward to include getting the most out of your DSLR, features to include in your dream nursery, and some of my favorite iphone apps to add a little extra touch to your photos. I've also got some cool shower gift ideas to wow your friends with.

So if you're not signed up, please do! And if you have topic suggestions or request, please let me know as well!

I'm still an architect

It has been another big month here at alethea cheng fitzpatrick photography. Did I say that last month? I feel like I say that every month!

First of all, I am insanely excited to have finally got my first newsletter out! If you are already a subscriber, check your in box. If not, you can still sign up and receive this first issue - the feature is on five great photo locations, whether for a professional photo session or your own photos. Also, newsletter subscribers receive $100 of free portrait goodies with their session - what are you waiting for?!

And yes, it has taken me a little while to get the newsletter going, mostly because I've been, oh, you know, REDESIGNING MY ENTIRE BUSINESS MODEL!!!

2010 has been a great year so far (is it really half over already?!) - great new clients, lots of work, new connections, new ideas, new inspiration. I've been lucky to have been in the position to step back a little and take a look at where I want all this to head.

How can I do what I love and bring all my talents and experience to bear to provide the greatest value that I can?

One thing that I hear over and over again is how hard it is for people to get around to printing, framing and installing their photos. Or maybe they've spent a lot of money on professional prints and don't know what to do with them.

I can help! As an architect and interior designer as well as a photographer, I can visit your home before our photo session to design the perfect wall gallery, which I can then create and install! It's all taken care of! Not only that but I can also design your baby or kid's room as well. Check out the wall gallery experience and the nesting experience for more information.

Photography and motherhood are two of my passions - architecture and interior design are a third that I'm excited to be bringing back into my life in a way that feels very natural and integrated with what I have already been doing. I can't wait to see what the second half of the year brings!
