Early spring at the High Line - NYC maternity and family photo session

The High Line is one of my favorite urban parks in the city. Making use of the old elevated train tracks, it is truly unique - a great place to hang out with your family and a great place to have a family photo session!

A few weeks ago, on what turned out to be one of the warmer days at the time, I photographed not one but four families at the High Line to test out an idea for a new quick and easy photo session experience... but more on that later.

First I am excited to share the first of that day's photo sessions with Tom, Johanna (baby girl due in May) and Liam, soon to turn two.

How could I not love a boy named Liam?! Just a few months younger than my Liam, we had great fun running around and exploring.

Johanna, almost 8 months pregnant at the time, looked fantastic, even though I know in those last few months you don't necessarily feel as good as you look... and with an active toddler around to boot, I can only imagine how tired she must be. Hang in there Johanna, not long to go, and you do look amazing!

I love this photo - it captures the essence of how fun motherhood can be.

And here she is with that gorgeous bump.

You can see the full slideshow here.

If you're a friend of Tom, Johanna and Liam, please leave a comment below wishing them well with their upcoming addition to the family! You'll also help them win a complimentary 8x10 print if they get 25 comments, a mounted 11x14 print if they get 50 comments and a beautiful 10x10 canvas gallery wrap if they get 75 comments, all by April 18th, 2011! And don't forget to sign up for your be inspired mini artwork tasting experience to get a sampling of my artwork products for yourself...

If you're interested in a High Line photo session for your own family - signups for the next quick and easy photo session event are now open! Quick and easy photo sessions are a great precursor, addition or alternative to the full wall gallery experience. Less customized than the wall gallery experience, the date and location are predetermined and I photograph several families in one day for 30 minute photo sessions. You still get a planning session and ordering session over the phone and you still get the same beautiful images (just not as many of them).

Want to get some quick and easy family portraits? Check it out! (And quick, there are only five spots available.)

Luke and Michele - photo session at the Pratt Campus

Last Friday, weather and schedules finally aligned and Michele, who won a gift certificate at the Mother's Day Diaper Drive and Cocktail Party back in May, came over with her son Luke for a playdate/photo session. Isn't he a cutie?

All the rescheduling paid off as the weather was gorgeous and the boys ran around on the Pratt campus while I took photos and caught up with Michele, who is expecting another baby boy at the end of the year - and she's looking fantastic.

Liam saw these photos as I was finishing my edits yesterday and said, totally unprompted, "Is that Luke?" Luke obviously made an impression on him - and me too. I loved photographing him as he climbed all over a sculpture on campus.

Michele, Richard and Luke, I wish you all the best with the new addition to your family! I wish we could have hung out for longer - next time!

Expectation and anticipation: Central Park maternity & family photo session

Pregnancy. It's an incredible time of expectation and anticipation, and a beautiful time to capture through photography.

I remember when I first called Iris to tell her I was pregnant. She left me a return message saying she was too! Zach was born just a week or two after Liam and now she and Jonathan are expecting a baby girl.

We met in Central Park last weekend and enjoyed a beautiful late afternoon amongst the trees near Sheep's Meadow. Iris is looking gorgeous and carrying really well. Zach was very patient while waiting for his turn in front of the camera!

Iris and Jonathan looked great together - this is one of my favorite photos of the two of them laughing together with Zach off camera.

And Zach of course was a total star.

Iris is an acupuncturist. Her company, Acupuncture Remedies, is located in midtown Manhattan. I'll be interviewing her for the blog next month but if you are considering acupuncture at all for any reason, I highly encourage you to give Iris a call. I'm no more fond of needles than the next person, but my treatments with her are the closest I've come to being able to switch off my brain and reach some sort of meditative state, and Iris will make you feel really comfortable about the whole process.

Iris, you have a beautiful family and I can't wait to meet your new addition! View the entire slideshow here.

A beautiful bump

I've been meaning to share a mini maternity/family session I did back in March with Wendy and her husband and her two year old daughter Willa.

Wendy looked fabulous in her seventh month, but I'd have to say there was a very strong risk of Willa stealing the show!

Thanks for a great session Wendy and family and I hope you're enjoying your new addition!
