Benjamin at Prospect Park - Brooklyn family photo session

A gorgeous fall afternoon in Prospect Park, a beautiful baby boy with big wide eyes, a fun family of three generations... what more could you ask for?!

Did I mention the little chubby not-yet-one-year-old cheeks? And the beautiful fall colors?

Erica is one of my current photosanity workshop participants, so I was delighted when she approached me about a family photo session for when her mother was visiting from Hawaii. I love including grandparents and extended family - it creates more relationships and moments to capture and adds special meaning to the session.

Plus I always love when workshop participants become portrait clients. I mean, I have amazing clients in general, but when they're from the workshop, they already know me, my style, my approach, and the philosophies behind what I do, and I already know that they value photography and are commited to creating beautiful photo documentation of their family's life.

Erica and her family were no exception. Not only that, but Erica did all her homework ahead of time - she clearly communicated her expectations, read over everything I sent her carefully and asked me lots of questions beforehand so that everything went really smoothly.

And I just loved how much fun the family were able to have on the day!

Erica, Peter, Benjamin and Judy, thank you so much for a great afternoon in the park! I can't wait to get you your order!

You can see the full slideshow here.

If you're a friend of the family, please leave a comment below wishing them well. You'll also help them win a complimentary 8x10 print if they get 25 comments, a mounted 11x14 print if they get 50 comments and a beautiful 10x10 canvas gallery wrap if they get 75 comments, all by November 11th, 2011!

I was worried that the baby would fuss or cry

I have a confession to make - I've been sitting on several great testimonials for MONTHS now! It's about time you heard from my clients, don't you think?! And thank you to my clients for taking the time to write. I know you are all very busy and I really appreciate it!

Last summer I did a photo session with Filipe and his family at Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Here's what Filipe's mom had to say about her experience with alethea cheng fitzpatrick photography:

I was excited but admittedly a little worried that the baby would fuss and/or cry especially because it was a hot and humid day in August.

We did a photo shoot in the park when our son was six months old. I was excited but admittedly a little worried that the baby would fuss and/or cry especially because it was a hot and humid day in August. Also, I felt that I did not look my best as all my efforts were focused on making my son look and feel his best.

But despite all of this, Alethea managed to get loads of FANTASTIC photos of the entire family. She made us feel at ease and told us to be natural and just play with him.

Along with ensuring I had my special requests taken care of, Alethea also captured very special moments that we were unaware of and very happily surprised when we saw them in the proofs. The first couple of times I looked at our digital storybook, I was so moved I had tears in my eyes. The only "problem" we had was narrowing down our order because there were SO MANY wonderful photos to choose from!

Having a toddler herself, Alethea understands the needs and challenges of families with small children and babies and worked with us to make sure we would have wonderful photos!

Filipe and his family were so much fun to work with... and I don't remember any fussing or crying, although that can always be handled and worked around. And one of the happy surprises? Filipe fell asleep in his stroller at the end of the session after his father had left for work and his mother went to use the nearby restroom. Filipe's mother had mentioned to me that she had been trying to capture photos of Filipe's long eyelashes so I seized the opportunity and snapped away!

Thanks for a great photo session - I can't wait to do it again!
